Sergey Akopov — painter, was born in Tbilisi in 1956, graduated from the Tbilisi Academy of Arts in 1983. Since 1993, he lived and worked in Moscow. Since 1998, he has been a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia.
The artist's creative pursuits have shaped two directions of his interests in painting. For a long period of his life, the artist devoted himself to studying and reinterpreting the experience of European medieval masters, particularly the Dutch and Flemish schools of painting. Still life became a genre for him that allowed combining the traditions of old masters with contemporary trends.
Since the early 2000s, the artist has been passionate about figurative painting, in which he finds new opportunities to embody his ideas and express his view on universal human themes. The heroes of his paintings, driven by the search for meaning, balance between symbols and abstraction with childlike spontaneity.
Since 2023, Sergey Akopov has been living in France, collaborating with a number of European galleries. His works are held in private collections in Europe, the USA, Canada, and China.
