The grandeur of the Volga is balanced here by the simple everyday life of fishermen, thoughtfully peering at their fishing rods, a passing boat and rhythmically located buildings along the shore. There is also a sense of subtle urban bustle - boats go about their business, and people on the pier are busy with a simple, eternal task.
