This original work, "Mimosa for the wife," was created by the contemporary Russian artist Tatyana Chepkasova.
The protagonist of the story is a man who has lost his wife. He stands by the window, dissolving in the light. On the windowsill is a violet: among the ancient Greeks, the violet was considered a flower of sorrow and death, but it was also a symbol of the awakening of nature. On the table are unfinished knitting and a bouquet of mimosa.
Mimosa is a type of acacia; it is one of the first to bloom after the winter cold. The yellow mimosa flowers symbolize sunlight and the will to live. In Ancient Egypt, acacia was considered the "tree of life," and in Christian tradition, it is a symbol of the immortality of the soul and resurrection. This is a work about love, life, and death.
