On the edge of the window and the air is stifling all around,
When the door is closed and the house is enchanted
By an airy branch of blue wisteria,
And in a clay cup there is cold water,
And towels are snow-white, and a wax candle, -
Everything is like a ritual. And only tirelessly
Silence thunders, not hearing my words, -
Then from the darkness of Rembrandt’s corners
Something suddenly coils and hides there,
But I will not startle, I will not even be afraid…
Here loneliness has caught me in its nets.
The master’s black cat watches like the eye of centuries,
And the double in the mirror does not want to help me.
