The reverse side of such medallions was decorated with an image of a Christian saint and words from a Greek prayer.
This symbol was popular in society, protected the owner from diseases, the evil eye, epidemics, misfortunes and death, gave the owner longevity, health and energy. Often, serpentine was kept in the house and protected it, attracting luck and prosperity.
