The image of the «Butterfly» represents the childhood beauty of a girl, her transformation into an adult woman, the tenderness of a child reborn into the mature beauty of a woman. This work is my reflection on where this boundary lies. Does it even exist? It is impossible to immediately determine the age of the person depicted; this is done intentionally to emphasize this question.
She is caught in the moment of «breaking free» from her familiar environment, as if emerging from a «cocoon». One half of the girl’s hair is still braided—a symbol of childhood—while the other half is loose—a symbol of growing up. In front of the girl, we see black stripes that may symbolize the unknown.
