This original artwork “The Belinsky Bridge” was created by the contemporary Russian artist Polina Goretskaya and is available for sale online.
The Belinsky Bridge in St. Petersburg spans over the Fontanka River, connecting Spassky and Nameless Islands. Initially, a wooden pile bridge was built on this site in 1733, decorated with a stone arch. In 1785, the bridge was rebuilt from stone according to the design of the French engineer Jean-Rodolphe Perrone, it became one of seven standard stone bridges over the Fontanka River with granite towers and a drawbridge. In 1859, the middle movable wooden span was replaced with a stone arch, and the towers were dismantled, giving the bridge the modern look of a three-span hinged arch. The bridge is about 19 meters wide, 56 meters long, and the pillars are lined with granite with granite ice cutters. In 1890, the sidewalks were placed on consoles to widen the roadway, and in 1908, tram tracks were laid across the bridge. The bridge received its modern name in 1923 in honor of the Russian literary critic Vissarion Belinsky, who lived nearby. In 1996-1999, the bridge was completely repaired, updating the sidewalk structures and restoring the cladding. In 2003, the bridge was equipped with artistic lighting as part of the "Bright City" program. The bridge is an object of cultural heritage of regional importance and an important transport artery of the Central district of St. Petersburg. This is pleasant summer day. Light clouds above the bridge and city. As typical for impressionism you feel involved in this joyful and happy environment.
