The painting invites reflection on a character trait such as envy; with "chronic toxicity," it can develop into a vice. Although envy is learned to be hidden, even from oneself, we encounter it throughout life. Most often, feelings of envy arise among acquaintances—friends, neighbors, colleagues, all those who have a "more or less" equal status and material means. If someone else gains a "plus," it can be perceived as superiority and cause complex unpleasant feelings. Sometimes, simply seeing one’s own envy from the outside is enough to swing this pendulum the other way—to reduce anxious tension and realize that nothing threatens our safety.
In the painting, the artist depicts two interesting characters, "hardcore" envyers of everything another person has but they themselves do not, even if these differences form their own individuality. Indeed, is it really worth envying another color or variety of apple and not accepting one’s own (oneself)? The comical details in the painting help to understand that there is no need to be angry, as there is nothing to envy, but there is much to rejoice in!!!
