Sergey Merenkov’s painting “Tolerant People” is not just a portrait of an elderly couple, but a multi-layered ironic sketch about tolerance, coexistence, the absurdity of human relationships, and what it really means to “accept” another person as they are. The artist creates a grotesque and memorable image that simultaneously evokes a smile and makes one think about complex questions. The canvas depicts an elderly couple standing next to each other.
