This original work, «The Amulet of Wanderings», was created by contemporary Russian artist Pavel Korzukhin and is available for purchase online.

The artist illustrated his vision of the main stages of European history through metaphorical images of decorative amulet pendants.

The «Amulet of Wanderings» corresponds to the Middle Ages. It consists almost entirely of Christian symbols forming an image associated with missionary journeys to distant unexplored lands.

The shell — a symbol of the mystery of the God-man — here serves as a sail that will always be filled with wind, as this wind is none other than the Divine Spirit itself. The boat or ship with a symbolic steering oar — a typical image of the Middle Ages — also symbolizes divinely inspired celestial navigation on the right course.

The crescent with horns pointing upwards, also known as «gata», duplicates the symbol of the ship. Its traditional placement is at the base of the cross, which can be seen on church domes. The invisible Orthodox cross of the «schema-monk» fits perfectly into the composition of the amulet. The heavens through which the celestial wanderer moves are closer in nature to Northern European latitudes.
