This original work, «The Amulet of Decision-Making», was created by contemporary Russian artist Pavel Korzukhin and is available for purchase online.
The artist illustrated his vision of the main stages of European history through metaphorical images of decorative amulet pendants.
«The Amulet of Decision-Making» relates to the turbulent times of the 18th to early 19th centuries. The moon was a popular, frequently and diversely used artistic and poetic symbol at that time.
A porcelain plaque, part of a porcelain figurine used as a swing, is conventionally «attached» to the Moon with festive garlands of twinkling stars. The porcelain figurine depicts a girl at the moment she decides to jump off the swing.
The style of the composition refers to an old fairground or circus tent poster. Here the artist conveys a grotesque generalization of the wild nihilistic, fatalistic madness that gripped minds and morals.
A person, guided by divine providence, being essentially a fragile, temporary «clay» (here — porcelain) vessel, decides to take their fate into their own hands — to jump off the swing that spins them and continue their flight at their own discretion. In the twilight night sky, in the shimmering glow of the full moon.
