EXPLANATORY NOTE

“KALEIDOSCO/P, -a, m.  An optical device in which one can observe rapidly changing diverse colorful patterns.”

(S.I. Ozhegov, Russian Language Dictionary)

Here: a symbol of deep contemplation of the countless treasures of the ever-rotating Universe; the embodiment of the “passive” principle of Being – the uninvolved, impartial Divine Spirit observing from the twilight of the hall the grand spectacle on the stage of the theater called the Cosmos.

“OPERA/TOR2, -a, m (specialized).  A person who performs certain production processes, operations (the term is part of compound words, e.g., sound operator, film operator).”

(S.I. Ozhegov, Russian Language Dictionary)

Here: a symbol of creative comprehension by this very “person” of the process of their presence in space and time; a symbol of the “active,” creative principle of the All-Permeating Energy of the Cosmos, manifested through the human being.

All together – OPERATOR KALEIDOSCOPE – inspired, creative, constructive contemplation; the Divine Spirit, contentedly, tirelessly, and persistently observing the ubiquitous, continuous creation of its own Creative Power, – that is, the state to which I strive with all my being and existence, and wish to help all who desire to strive for it.

It just happened that way.

After all, as it seems to me, an amateur, some kind of artistic intent is necessary for any successful artistic fiction. But when, like moisture from the air, verse-like expressions of the soul’s state began to fall from my being onto all sorts of scraps of super-patient paper, there was no hint of any intent for fiction. Moreover, the unshakable confidence at that stage of life that composing poetry after Akhmatova, Brodsky, Voloshin, Pasternak… was not just meaningless but almost sacrilegious, as you understand, did not contribute to the development of a healthy seed in the grains of creative ambition. (By the way, even now, though they have sprouted, they look rather weak.)

That is why I was not at all ashamed of my “blasphemous audacity” to suddenly, out of nowhere, rhyme the picturesque impressions of watching the wonders of the first November snow, just as I was not ashamed to sing Beatles and Mashina Vremeni songs in the shower. And let anyone who lives without this sin throw a salted tomato at me! If only I, with such a repertoire, with my ears bearing the imprint of bear-like clumsiness, went straight from the bath to the stage… What then? Nothing terrible, as it turned out! I returned backstage to approving applause without a single spot of tomato juice on my costume, and, it should be noted, not because they missed!

Apparently, what saved me was the fact that after rehearsing in the shower, I dried off thoroughly and dressed quite decently, and also wisely and timely gave up the intention to perform Lennon-McCartney compositions, although I had long been flattered by my external resemblance to John (even my own mother once mistook him for her own son in a photograph), and I performed the famous “Girl” quite decently. For about five years now, since the first notebook page lost its whiteness under the lines about the whiteness of the first snow, I have had the opportunity not to disturb the greats, both those who have passed away like Bose and those still alive, by successfully performing poems of my own composition.

Since then, another two times five years have passed, and all this time poetry has been seeping from my life onto now mostly deliberately provided paper of old unfinished notebooks on philosophy and technical mechanics, “condensing” into four books, quite self-sufficient and heartfelt, like those lived, self-sufficient and heartfelt years, composed and illustrated by life, in which, despite the absence of artistic fiction, an intent nevertheless manifested: the simple and clear Design of Divine Creation, reflected in an ordinary human soul taken separately but not separated from the Whole, open, at least sometimes, to the magnificence of this Creation and eager to express this magnificence by all known means.

As best as it can, that is, with all its heart.
